For more than eight years, we at Hoosier Authority have done everything within our power to be the best overall source for high school athletic information in Indiana. It is more than a goal; it is our reason for existing.
We began Hoosier Authority to combat the constant decline of coverage being supplied by traditional media outlets. In our time online, we have seen a transformation of the high school sports media landscape.
The number of traditional outlets, radio stations, and newspapers that devote significant resources to high school athletics continues to wither. The scope and tone of coverage by those that are involved increasingly has less sense of team and community, choosing in many instances to concentrate on individuals and how it all translates to the next level.
The exact opposite is true in the world of new media, something we backwoods folk in Indiana call “the Internet.” Here, high school sports media has gone from a Google search that could drive you crazy to a crowded industry.
Prep athletics have gone from being the ignored stepchild of the athletic universe to the prized market of national media conglomerates. Schools themselves have gone from the unsophisticated rubes nobody wanted to deal with to being prized customers and/or indentured servants of countless tech firms that envision the opportunity to make money in the media industry without having to dirty their hands to the extent of actually writing a story or taking a picture.
We at Hoosier Authority have battled behind the scenes every day on behalf of what we believe is best for the coaches and athletes who so enrich our lives through their efforts.
We have argued to this burgeoning industry that technology should not be a product but rather a vehicle – that a URL does not equate to information or coverage. We have argued that what high schools really need to help them promote their athletic programs is not technological tools they do not have the time to use, but instead help in using those tools.
Quite frankly, it has at times been the most frustrating experience of our lives.
Well, I am thrilled to say that we are coming out the other end of this labyrinth stronger and better than ever. Launching a new and improved version of Hoosier Authority on the Sport Ngin platform. It will be the most comprehensive high school athletics website ever launched in our state.
We are returning to our journalistic roots, and we couldn’t be happier.
The new Hoosier Authority will be a work in progress over the summer. At that, it will be the best source for high school and club information in all sports you can find without visiting 40 different websites.
By the time school begins in the fall, it will be the best high school athletic website Indiana has ever seen.
The site will be interactive, it will cover ALL parts of the state, and it will aggregate information you cannot get anywhere else. We sincerely hope you will make the new Hoosier Authority a part of your daily routine.
As always, we will be Indiana’s high school sports authority …
